us Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Virginia Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is the Commonwealth's law firm.
In addition to representing the interests of the people of Virginia, our clients is the Commonwealth’s state agencies, boards, and commissions that compose it.
The Transportation section of the OAG is seeking an attorney to support the operations of Transportation Secretariat agencies, including the Department of Transportation, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Rail and Public Transportation, and Virginia Port Authority.
This position primarily will serve as counsel to agencies and authorities within the Transportation Secretariat to assist their day-to-day operations and achievement of agency goals.
The attorney’s work will support complex transportation-related initiatives and projects and will involve novel challenges and unique issues facing transportation agencies as they maintain, operate, and grow the Commonwealth’s multi-modal infrastructure network and support its users.
A significant portion of the work will support the Department of Transportation.
Legal work includes issues arising out of construction and non-construction procurements, general operations, employment issues, project and services contracting, and environmental and sustainability activities.
Procurement-related work includes advising on public procurements, including bidding, solicitations, contract development, and related protests and disputes.
Additional areas of representation include litigation support, FOIA, COIA, fiscal and regulatory reviews, grants, and utility issues.
As with all positions, other duties as necessary or appropriate may also be assigned.
Some overnight travel may be required.
The OAG offers a comprehensive Commonwealth benefits package, including paid leave, health, dental, vision and retirement benefits.
Additionally, the OAG offers telecommuting (up to two days per week).
Minimum Qualifications Attorneys must have a minimum of three (3) years’ legal practice experience; however, we will consider well- qualified applicants who have fewer years in practice.
Demonstrated excellence in the skills of legal research, analysis, and writing.
Experience advising public entities is preferred but not required.
Transportation related projects or experience is desirable but not required.
Procurement and/or IT contracting experience is desirable but not required.
