We serve students ages 5 to 22 who need extra support to find success in the classroom.
The primary responsibility of the INSTRUCTIONAL COACH is to be a critical lever in improving student achievement.
The role of the coach is to help reflect on instruction and collaborate with teachers, encourage positive change in the school culture, and promote the use of data analysis to inform teaching practice.
The coach will also provide instructional support to both teachers and principals and perform related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, Masters preferred.
Advanced computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Office 365 preferred.
Ability to organize work effectively.
Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of people in person, by phone, and in writing.
Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and complete required paperwork according to agency requirements on a timely basis.
Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance.
Satisfactory Driving Record in accordance with Driver Requirements policy.
Ability to drive agency vehicle or personal vehicle as needed.
Ability to travel as required.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Functions - May be required to perform any of the following duties: Collaborate with individual teachers or teams of teachers through co-planning and coaching.
Assist teachers in interpreting data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction.
Facilitate teachers’ use of successful, research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners.
Conduct non-evaluative observations of teaching and learning to improve instruction, provide feedback and provide resources.
Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the Virginia Standards of Learning and Minnick Pacing Guides.
Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with Minnick initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc.
to support classroom instruction and planning.
Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, and the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of all students.
Assist in conducting and/or facilitating professional development activities to support teachers in effective instructional strategies, curriculum implementation, new initiatives, and assessment practices.
Provide individualized teacher professional development, as requested.
Model effective instructional strategies; provides on-going coaching and feedback to teachers.
Collaborate in the review of current practices on how instructional time is utilized and assist in the development of “bell to bell” instruction for core-subjects.
Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations to ensure that all student information is kept confidential except as required by legal order.
Assist administrators, school-level administrators, and teachers with analysis and interpretation of assessment results.
Provide instructional leadership and training in the implementation of curriculum (vertical alignment of SOLs across grades, pacing guides) and the lesson plan format.
Assist principals and the Educational Data, Testing, and Instructional Coordinator, as requested or assigned, with the review of lesson plans and provides feedback to the principal or teacher.
Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
Submit to the Educational Data, Testing, and Instructional Coordinator a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
Promotes and supports the use of instructional technology.
Serves as the School Testing Coordinator (STC).
All other duties as assigned.
