West Virginia University Division of Extension Services is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Part-Time Program Assistant (Multiple Openings) for their McDowell County Extension Office in Welch, WV.
About the Opportunity As a Temporary Part-Time Program Assistant, you will work part-time, 17 hours a week, collaboratively as a member of the WVU McDowell County Extension Service, working in the 4-H Youth Development program area.
Occasional night and weekend work may be required.
Position is contingent upon available county funding.
You will be part of the Department of County Operations.
This position reports to the Extension Instructor.
PAY GRADE – 12 Assignment Length: Approximately 2.
5 months What you’ll do: PROGRAM PLANNING/IMPLEMENTATION Coordinates and arranges classes, meetings, workshops, conferences, camps in consultation with County Extension Agents.
Reserves and prepares facilities for meetings.
Coordinates county 4-H activities with the local summer-school.
As instructed by Extension Agent plans, attends, and/or conducts scheduled meetings monthly.
Assists with planning projects and events as instructed by Extension Agent.
Attends camps as directed by Extension Agents.
Assists with newsletters and program mailings.
Fills 4-H project book orders and maintains project inventory, maintains 4-H files and records, keeps leaders up to date on current information.
Assists with conducting periodic evaluations of programs and activities to identify areas of needed improvement.
Communicates and works collaboratively with county schools and organizations serving youth.
Screens volunteer applications and maintains volunteer records.
Assist with Camp rentals and contracts.
Supports Family Nutrition Program.
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT Serves as back and helps maintain the McDowell County 4-H records utilizing 4-H databases.
Prints reports utilizing 4-H databases.
Updates and maintains website and social media.
PROGRAM RECRUITMENT Assists with recruiting or locating potential 4-H members and volunteers using various techniques such as community presentations and personal contacts.
Follows up recruitment with orientation of recruited leaders.
Assists with promotion of all McDowell County WVU Extension programs.
TRAINING Collaborates with McDowell County Extension staff to assess training needs of program participants.
Coordinates training programs as directed by Extension Agents.
Assists agents with developing, expanding, conducting, and implementing the programs to reach diverse audiences.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Participates in professional development sessions as related to the 4-H Youth responsibilities of this position.
Qualifications Requires business, secretarial or technical training related to the position, obtained through a formal training program of over eighteen (18) months or a combination of education and experience that meets this requirement A minimum of (6) months of experience involving: Working with youth and/or adult audiences with community organizations or volunteers Strong communication skills as needed (written/oral/telephone/in person) to perform duties in a professional, businesslike manner Organizational skills to plan and organize tasks and set priorities for responsibilities Problem solving skills in dealing with a variety of interests and personalities Public speaking skills to present WVU Extension Service programs Interpersonal skills Computer word processing, data entry, and spreadsheet skills Budget management skills Leadership skills Ability to type with speed and proficiency Requirements Ability to pass a background check High level of manual dexterity is required to operate computer keyboard, fax machine, photocopier, and telephone.
