A Family Services Specialist I represents the entry level employees working under close supervision while being trained in program areas such as Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoption, Child Care and Employment Services.
Employees perform routine entry level casework activities and the casework is usually reviewed by the supervisor prior to implementing a case action.
A Family Services Specialist II represents the full performance level.

Resource “Foster” Parent Recruiter Position Description: The Dickenson County Department of Social Services Resource Foster Family Department is looking for someone to join our team.
The Resource Foster Family Recruiter is responsible for recruitment, approval, and re-certification of homes in accordance with state policy and guidelines.
Qualifications: Experience in assigned program area and completion of required training programs or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Position Responsibilities: The Recruiter conducts and/or evaluates Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education (PRIDE) and Traditions of Caring (TOC) Pre-Service Trainings, assesses families’ abilities to foster and writes the Mutual Family Assessment (MFA) for family approval, retains records of resource foster family homes, completes home visits and safety checks, and provides support to resource foster parents.
The Recruiter is responsible for obtaining all necessary documents for approval/re-approval purposes to keep homes in compliance.
Recruiter will also host and provide In-Service Trainings to approved foster parents to keep them in compliance with annual resource family training requirements.
Recruiter should be knowledgeable of home safety, have the ability to work in the community doing presentations, participate in community events, work independently without assistance, be able to establish appropriate boundaries, be willing to promote and advertise program, keep up to date on policy changes, ability to adhere to policy, ability to form a supportive relationship while maintaining appropriate boundaries; able to speak proficiently in a group setting; experience working with families that have children with trauma, case management skills, able to work independently as well as on a team, time management skills, ability to communicate orally and in writing, experience using a computer with some ability in word, excel and other necessary required programs; ability to talk with clients and willing to travel throughout the county, ability to work closely with program supervisor, willingness to learn and complete required program trainings.

Informs clients of related service programs rules/regulations, and right to participate; Presents cases to determine appropriate services and writes/implements service plans; Provides case management services to monitor compliance; Manages program waiting lists; Tracks expenditures, prepares/submits budget estimates and ensures payment for services; Completes necessary federal, state and local planning and reporting requirements; Coordinates with other agencies and participates in multi-disciplinary and interagency teams providing services to customers; Conducts overall monitoring of programs in specific area of responsibility; Serves as resource to clients and the community in area of expertise; and Provides after hours on-call coverage and responds to emergencies in child/adult protective services and/or foster care.

Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable.

Minimum Qualifications: Prefer work experience in a human services field or an internship in a human services field.
